This October marks 10 years since I first took my family to Walt Disney World!
In that time, I’ve packed for toddlers, tweens, teenagers, and every stage in between. And, I’ve seen every kind of Florida weather October can throw at us.
So when people ask me, “What do I even pack for Disney in the fall?” I’ve got real, lived-in answers. Not just a list I found on Pinterest…
Let’s talk about what you actually need to wear (and pack) for Halloween season at Disney World, so you can stop stressing about your suitcase and start getting excited about churros and Mickey ears.

First, Let’s Talk About the Weather (…because It’s Not What You Think)
Here’s the thing about Disney World in October. It still feels a lot like summer!
I know, I know. You’ve got your Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand and you’re mentally ready for sweater weather. But Orlando didn’t get the memo.
Based on historical averages for the Magic Kingdom area, here’s what you’re actually working with in October:
- Average high: 85°F (which is going to feel like 95°F in the middle of the day)
- Average low: 69°F
- Average humidity: 73%
- Average rainfall: just under 3 inches for the month
Translation? Your days will be warm and humid, and your evenings will cool off just enough to feel kind of nice. And there’s still a decent chance of an afternoon rain shower, since October technically falls within hurricane season. It’s always worth keeping an eye on the forecast as your trip gets closer.
If you’re heading into an evening event like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, you’ll actually notice a nice difference once the sun goes down. Honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of a fall Disney trip.
What to Actually Pack (My Tried & True List)

1. Light, breathable clothing for daytime
Think moisture-wicking tanks, breathable shorts, and lightweight dresses or rompers.
After ten years of park days, I promise you: cotton is not your friend once the Florida humidity kicks in. I always point my clients toward performance fabrics that dry quickly, because you will sweat, and that’s okay.

2. A light layer for the evening
Once the sun dips down, especially at Halloween party events that run into the night, that 69°F low can feel chilly if you’ve been sweating all day.
A packable light jacket or flannel is perfect. Nothing bulky, just something you can tie around your waist for 90% of the day.
3. Halloween themed outfits (because it’s half the fun!)
This is where Disney Halloween really shines. You don’t need a full costume (Disney does have rules about costumes for anyone over 14, which I’m always happy to walk my clients through).
But themed outfits like Mickey pumpkin tees, Hocus Pocus tanks, or matching family Halloween shirts are a huge part of the experience. They also make for the best photos.

4. Comfortable, broken–in shoes
I say this to every single client, every single time. Do not wear brand new shoes to Disney.
You’ll be walking 8 to 10+ miles a day. Whatever shoes you choose, make sure they’re broken in well before your trip.

5. A small backpack or crossbody bag
You’ll want something to carry ponchos, sunscreen, snacks, and your souvenir Halloween popcorn bucket (you know you’re getting one).
A lightweight, packable bag makes a huge difference over a long day.

6. The essentials I never let a client forget
- Travel size sunscreen (the Florida sun does not care that it’s “fall”)
- A portable phone fan or handheld fan. A total game changer on hot afternoons
- A poncho, just in case (October showers are usually quick, but they happen)
- Reusable water bottle

A Quick Word From Me
If there’s one thing ten years of Disney trips with my own family has taught me, it’s this: the right packing list makes the whole trip smoother!
Less stress. Fewer meltdowns (yours or theirs!). More time actually enjoying the parks.
I’ve packed for littles who needed a stroller and a change of clothes for every outfit. I’ve packed for teenagers who just wanted their AirPods and a portable charger. Whatever stage your family is in, I promise there’s a way to make this easy.
And if all of this is starting to feel like a lot, that’s exactly what I’m here for. Planning the trip itself (park days, dining reservations, understanding Lightning Lanes, Halloween party tickets) can be just as overwhelming as packing for it.
